Meet The Crew

Our Mission and Leadership

At Swell, our mission is led by Nia, a Health Strategist and Master’s Candidate in Applied Behavior Analysis, and supported by a hand-picked team of elite, CPR-certified coaches. Whether you are working directly with Nia on your Virtual Web of Support or catching waves with our specialized surf instructors, you are receiving the same trauma-informed, sensory-safe care that defines our brand.”

Aloha I’m Nia,

I am an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certified Health Coach with a Behavior Change Specialization (BCS), Senior Fitness Specialization (SFS), and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Longwood University. As COO of Swell, I have over 10 years of experience in helping people find value in movement. We founded Swell with the goal of keeping families moving in a safe, fun, and sustainable way.

As a lover of movement from a young age, participating in swimming, soccer and volleyball, and later learning to surf and paddle canoe, I understand how important it is to balance passion with productivity. Funny enough, we tend to accomplish more in less time when we’re intentional about getting movement and rest.

Too often, people don’t look at themselves as athletes, but you are! It takes discipline, dedication, and desire to move on a regular basis, even recreationally. I think it’s important to recognize the hard work and effort that goes into moving throughout a lifetime.

Meet Our CEO

Aloha I’m Josh,

Over a decade ago, I made the move to Maui and discovered my love for surfing at Breakwall in Lahaina. For years, I started my mornings by walking to the surf break, using my understanding of nature to navigate the ever-changing waves and deepen my connection to the ocean.

As the Strategic Manager of Swell, I am passionate about passing on meaningful ideas, values, and knowledge (memetics) to future generations. I believe that fostering awareness around preventive care, water safety, and surf culture is essential for building a healthier, more vibrant society.

I’m thrilled to be part of a company dedicated to inspiring kids to embrace movement throughout their lives in a fun, safe, and engaging environment.

IF YOU’RE LIKE US, you want to…

Spend more time in the ocean. Spending time in the ocean has been scientifically proven to have a positive impact on our physical and mental health. It can help ease the mind, heal the body, and free the spirit.

Live a physically active life.  We don’t want to just be able to clean our houses and tie our shoes. We want to be able to travel, surf, and trust our bodies to move.

Be in harmony with the flow of life. We don’t want to rely on one, big thing to keep us healthy. We want our lives to be a web of sound habits that all support each other.

Why Swell?

Human-centered

Your life is unique and valuable, and you are the only one who truly understands it. You have the most valuable information on how to make meaningful change in your life. Together, we can ask questions, explore all the possibilities, and create a thoughtful plan that is tailored to your needs and goals.

Considerate

We understand that there are many factors that can impact our lives, including our environment and social support. While you may be doing everything you can, these factors can play an extremely critical role in our lives. Taking that into consideration, the question then becomes, ‘How can we work around these factors to achieve our goals?

Science-based

Behavioral science is a relatively new concept in the field of health improvement. It involves using insights from psychology and economics to understand how individuals make decisions regarding their health. By playing around with your motivation, the difficulty level of the new habit, and finding the right spot to place it into your existing routine, we can create lasting changes.
